General Information
Duration: 6 - 14 weeks
Attendance Days: To be agreed at the initial meeting (half a day up to two days per week)
Time: 10 am - 12:30 pm / 1.15pm - 3.30pm
Start dates: January 2012
All training is free to London Borough of Barnet residents.
For those living outside Barnet who would like to access our service, individuals can self-fund or use their Personal Budget to pay for the service they require.


Practical Skills for the Workplace (Training)
Availabile on Mondays

This course is designed to give participants the confidence and skills required to function effectively in any workplace.
  • Introduction to Office Equipment
  • Personal Presentation and Conduct in the Workplace and Confidentiality
  • Introduction to Health and Safety
  • Meeting Documentation and Minute Taking
  • Introduction to Business Communications
  • Introduction to Business Organisations
  • Rights and Responsibilities of the Employee
  • Business Letter Writing
  • Introduction to Report Writing
  • Presentations
Web Page Creation (Training)
Availabile on Wednesdays

Basic IT knowledge is required to access this training. If you think think you will benefit from a refresher or basic IT course, please contact us for more information on our 'Access IT' course.
  • Introduction to the web-based language HTML
  • Create simple web pages with text and images
  • Adding hyperlinks
Web Page Creation 2 (Training and Placement)
Availabile on Thursdays

Following Web Page Creation 1, trainees will:
  • Continue with HTML training to produce more sophisticated websites using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
  • Be supported to develop a website of thier interest
Web Page Creation 3 (Training and Placement)
Availabile on Tuesdays

Following Web Page Creation 2, trainees will:
  • To put together a 3 page website (with a logo) using HTML and CSS
  • Introduction to Coldfusion and Javascript
Computer Training *
Availabile on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays

Instruction is provided on the following:
  • Using Email with MS Outlook
  • Using the internet with Internet Explorer
  • Word Processing with MS Word
  • Spreadsheets with MS Excel
  • Databases with MS Access
  • Presentations with MS Powerpoint
Graphic Design 1 & 2 (Training and Placement)
Availabile on Mondays

With no previous design experience required, training is available on:
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • QuarkXPress
  • MS Publisher
  • MS Powerpoint
  • Data Protection Act, Copyright Act and Computer Misuse Act
  • Print and Print Finishing Equipment
Trainees will be supported to work on commercial projects and experience working on a design / print brief from start to completion.

Reception Placement (Includes Full Reception Training)
Availabile on Thursdays

After successfully completing 'Practical Skills for the Workplace', trainees can improve their communication skills with a 12 week reception placement. Trainee will be allocated a slot to work on reception at RF Barnet. Attendance times will be arranged by mutual consent.

Team Working Training
Availabile on Fridays

In this course, trainees will receive instruction on:
  • Definition of a team and roles of the team members
  • How to work effectively as part of a team
  • Evaluating the success of the team
  • Assessing their own contribution to the team
Following training, trainees will participate in a team working task.

Job Club (Drop-In Sessions)
Available on Wednesdays
Duration: 10.30am - 12.30pm at East Finchley Library

Available on Thursdays
Duration: 10am - 12pm at Chipping Barnet Library

Service Users registered with Richmond Fellowship can come to our half day session job clubs for help with a variety of resources supporting clients:
  • Job seeking
  • Looking for courses
  • Looking for volunteering opportunities
  • Developing your CV / writing applications
  • Investigating possible careers directions
  • Applying for specific job / placement
We Offer:

  • Free print, photocopying and postage facilities

Preparation For Work
(Due to interest)
Starting on Tuesday 15th November 2011 (provisional date)

Duration: 6 weeks, 10am - 12pm

This course is designed to help you analyse your reasons for wanting to work and how to help you prepare yourself for a working life.

The course provides the opportunity to develop self awareness and insight into how a job would change your life. It focuses on your hopes and reasons for wanting a job and throughout the course you will complete an Individual Learning Plan which you can then share with your Employment advisor. The more realistic and open you are about your future the more you will get out of this course.

The course would benefit you if:
  • You would like to get a job in the near future
  • You would like to understand your personal barriers for getting into work
  • You are willing to work with the group to support each other in preparing for work
  • You would like to work on an individual plan to help you find and keep a job.


Access IT
Availabile on Mondays

Duration: 12 weeks, 10:30am - 13:00pm

This course is designed to refresh/explain the foundations of IT

The course includes:
  • Health and Safety
  • Understanding the IT interfaces and toolbars
  • MS Word
  • Internet Explorer

Our Office Service and Print Service Bureaux are fully functioning departments providing administrative and communications support to Richmond Fellowship, both locally and nationally, local partnership projects such as the World Mental Health Week, and local businesses, voluntary and community organisations, on a commercial basis. They offer vocational training opportunities in IT, administration, graphic design and webdesign, allowing service users to develop and practice a range of transferable skills to meet the demands of a modern workplace.
